Tunisia and France celebrate the centenary of the first crossing of the Mediterranean by Roland Garros


La France et la Tunisie célèbrent le centenaire de la première traversée de la méditerranée par Roland Garros
In 1913, Roland Garros for the first time crossed the Mediterranean non-stop direct flight from the town of Fréjus (France) to Bizerte in Tunisia by aircraft type Morane-Saulnier Type G

The adventure will be restored September 22, 2013, with the same type of aircraft used by Garros with the Toulouse-based Réplic'Air Association, in collaboration with several French aircraft manufacturers and the Aero Club of France founded in 1898 .

The plane will be the same route from Frejus to Bizerte 100 years after the first crossing, along with thirty other aircraft and a group of aviation enthusiasts. The official program of the Centennial celebrations will include a variety of events involving all historical lectures, exhibitions, film screenings, musical evenings, workshops ...

In Tunisia, the event is celebrated by a National Committee consisting of the Mayor & Governorate of Bizerte, Tunisian Association of Aeronautics and the National Engineering School of Bizerte, in collaboration with the Ministries of Tourism, Culture and defense as well as a group of associations and organizations Tunisian and French.
