The body of an Indian soldier was killed in the crash of an Antonov An-12 in 1968, was found, 45 years after the fact.
The soldier who died in the crash has been identified by an identity card, insurance and a letter to his family police. He was then transported to the Chandi Mandir military station, before joining his hometown for the last rites with military honors.
The military transport aircraft Antonov An-12, with 98 Indian soldiers and four crew members, crashed on a cold morning in February 1968. Then he heads to Leh town of Jammu and Kashmir in India and located 3,500 m above sea level, the pilot rebroussera way for fear of bad weather before disappearing forever. The alleged crash remain a mystery until an expedition to the glacier Dhakka only found debris over 5000 meters in 2003. Since then, three expeditions until 2009 have uncovered, despite extreme weather conditions, four bodies.
